CDM Coordinator – a proactive integral member of the project delivery team and a key health and safety advisor to the client.

As client accepting low fees will increase your chances of risk management problems with your project. We believe our fee is probably the most competitive in the industry. Our costs reflects what’s necessary to carry out a full and proper CDMC function as required by the CDM Regulations and associated ACOP and industry guidance.

CDM Coordinators fee typical guide – 0.1% where the build cost is between £1.5m and £5m.  Fees are negotiable above £5million, whilst projects below £1.5m usually attract a fee of between £850 and £1,500.

If clients accept low fees then the following just will not happen.

What do our CDM coordinators costs allow?

  • We will provide adequate resources to deliver the CDM coordinator Role.
  • We will attend design team meetings,
  • We will coordinate health and safety aspects of the design,
  • We will liaise with principal contractors and manage pre construction information,
  • We will produce health and safety files,
  • We advise and assist our clients from start to finish.

It’s fair to say that the “cheapest price does not mean best value” what it means is that CDM coordinators will not be able to operate as efficiently and effectively as they should do as the key adviser to the client if the fee won’t allow them to do so.

By the way; any Designer, Architect or Engineer who recommends Veritas Consulting to their client can claim a 5% commission.

Very interested in your comments on fee levels and CDM-C service provision. As a CDMC professional i could not provide the level of service required to discharge CDM duties for the 0.1% on £1.5m – £5m projects, a £1500 service fee at a very low rate of £250 a day would provide a 6 day resource on a project that from design to completion can range widely 4-8 months, where is the proactive involvement in project design development and risk management the production of PCIP, H&SF and CDM admin would easily exceed this allocation of resource.
I belive that these levels of fees indicated actually undermine the CDMC profession.

    • Hi Mike

Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Please note that the figures quoted are only a typical guide and an attraction method for business – where upon all enquires are treated on an individual basis. I stress again the figures quoted are only a typical guide and we don’t for one minute intend to undermine the CDM Coordinator profession unlike others that charge far less for the same service.

Regards and have a great day!

Thanks for reply and clarification, however if i was a client reading your web site information which clearly indicates a fee range for project scale.

    “Our CDM Coordinator Role fees
Veritas CDM Coordinator role fees are amongst the most competitive in the industry – approximately 0.1% where the build cost is between £1.5m and £5m. Fees are negotiable above £5million, whilst projects below £1.5m usually attract a fee of between £850 and £1,500.

Any Designer, Architect or Engineer who recommends Veritas Consulting to their client can claim a 5% commission”.

A client that requires a copmetent service to discharge legal duties should question level of resource and competency.
As a Fellow of the APS actively involved in assessment for client organisations, fee proposals at this level would attract serious vetting.
Many clients however do not have the insight to judge copmetency or resource and would take things at face value. I my view this information is miss leading and does undermine the CDMC profession.

    Thanks

Each appointment we can fulfill our obligations for the fees we charge that’s all that really matters – It really depends on the amount of hard work carried out for fee rather how much CDM Coordinators charge.

Our fee is not of prime importance when considering an appointment What is important, is that our client receives quality, competent, correct advice when they need it, how they need it.

It is our aim to provide “value for money” and we want clients to spend their money on the construction project rather than on hefty consultant’s fees.

  • David Hunter says:

The APS have produced a document reporting on their research into Fees charged by CDM-C’s, it makes very interesting reading as it reveals that rates vary tremendously from as low as £25 per hour up to £150 per hour. I have a copy of the report, if you would like a copy I can forward by email.

  • Mike Stowell says:

The historic APS fee paper mentioned by David also highlighted the challenges faced in adequate resource provision.
I am reassured that you state you do not compromise the required CDMC service needed, how you arrive at these fee levels and assess the allocated resource required can only be judged by the client and their knowledge of competency requirement from CDMCs, lets hope that value for money does not compromise health and safety in design, construction, occupation, maintenance and decommissioning.

This is an general area of concern in the current recession that I will be discussing with the APS in debate over the next few months your input would be more than welcome.

      Mike,

Following your recent comments gave us food for thought we are now looking at our fee structure as we are getting involved with some complex schemes and to be honest we maybe slightly stretched at times. Thank you.

by the way I would be interested in the debate, what’s involved?

      Regards

      David
